“Inspiring Brothers: Voices of Inclusion” is a youth-led project by Pablo and Andrik that promotes inclusion for people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Through interactive talks and activities, the project introduced Unified Schools and encouraged young people to build more inclusive schools, communities, and workplaces through empathy, teamwork, and shared learning.

About the Project

The “Inspiring Brothers: Voices of Inclusion” project delivered interactive presentations and workshops centered on inclusion, empathy, and teamwork. Through discussions and activities, local students explored the importance of listening, respect, and creating opportunities for everyone, particularly individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The sessions highlighted how inclusive attitudes can shape supportive school and workplace environments and offered practical ways young people can promote inclusion in their daily lives.

The Inspiration

The project was inspired by individuals with intellectual disabilities who demonstrate determination, joy, and resilience in their daily lives. Andrik was especially influenced by his sister, who has autism, and taught him the value of patience, empathy, and inclusion. The project was also shaped by the encouragement and support of their families, friends, and Special Olympics Mexico, which helped motivate and guide its development.

The Project

The project successfully hosted talks, activities, and presentations on inclusion tailored to young people with and without IDD. Through these experiences, participants learned about Unified Schools programs and how to foster inclusive environments in schools, communities, and workplaces. The project also created space for open dialogue, interaction, and shared learning.

Project Impact

The project had a meaningful impact on the local community by increasing awareness and understanding of inclusion.

The youth leaders plan to continue promoting inclusion by organizing additional talks, activities, and projects within their community and through Special Olympics Mexico. They also aim to expand awareness of Unified Schools and encourage more young people to get involved. The project continues to reach individuals within the Special Olympics community and beyond.

Project Leaders Reflection

Youth leaders Pablo and Andrik shared that their favorite memories were the interactive activities and presentations that encouraged participation, interaction, and open conversations about inclusion. They especially valued seeing young people engage actively, express themselves, and connect with one another.

Working together as a unified team was especially meaningful, as it allowed them to create impactful experiences that promote inclusion. Through the project, they strengthened their leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while demonstrating the importance of collaboration in building Unified Schools and more inclusive communities.
