Kritish and Francois Miguel are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Mauritius who will lead a Youth Innovation Project to organize an inclusive recreation and counseling day.
On this day, siblings of people with intellectual disabilities will visit a special education school and learn about different types of intellectual disabilities and psychological services, as well as the impact of sport and fitness on people with intellectual disabilities and the community. Special Olympics athletes will share their personal stories of how Special Olympics has affected their self-confidence. The day will conclude with Unified Sports bocce and football games as well as fitness activities for all to participate in and enjoy.
Kritish and Francois Miguel share a vision to “empower the next generation with the right knowledge and skills for a better, inclusive society.” They believe that their project will allow youth and new participants of the movement to strengthen their commitment to Special Olympics. Kritish and Francois Miguel hope that the recreation and counseling day will increase awareness of Special Olympics and people with intellectual disabilities, connect siblings and other youth, and promote healthy lifestyles among people of all abilities.
Kritish and Francois Miguel are excited to work together as part of the Unified Generation. Being a part of the Unified Generation is extremely important to both leaders. To them, the Unified Generation is about youth coming together and sharing ideas for inclusion. As leaders of the Unified Generation, Kritish and Francois Miguel are creating inclusion in Mauritius and inspiring inclusion around the world.
