Unified Sports
Jennifer is a Special Olympics Youth Leader and Special Olympics athlete from Austria who has been inspired to share the power of inclusion with others.
She will lead a Youth Innovation Project that brings Special Olympics inclusive programming to more schools in Austria and builds on the success she and other Youth Leaders have already had implementing Unified Sports projects at Austrian schools. Through continued and new sports opportunities, Jennifer plans to bring Youth Leaders with and without intellectual disabilities together to break down barriers and put inclusion into practice.
Over nine months, together with a Special Olympics Athlete, Emmanuel, Jennifer will visit special schools in Austria, do sports activities together and talk about the positive experiences she’s had with Special Olympics Austria in the hopes that this will inspire more youth with intellectual disabilities to get involved. Special Olympics Austria has already been well-received in many regular and special schools, and Jennifer plans to build upon this foundation with the establishment of long-term inclusive sport opportunities. Jennifer believes that this will make inclusion an everyday part of life for youth instead of a one-time event so it can be woven into the fabric of schools and communities.
