Project Year
2021
Aissatou and Awa are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Senegal who will lead a Youth Innovation Project for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to participate in interactive sports, cooking, and arts and crafts activities that promote independence, self-esteem, and social inclusion.
Aissatou and Awa’s project will provide participants with the skills and training they need to become entrepreneurs in their community and showcase their skills in communities around Senegal.

Aissatou and Awa’s project will start with an awareness campaign in primary schools in their region. During this campaign, project participants will share the importance of inclusion with community members. Following the campaign, participants will go through a series of trainings focused on art, cooking, culture, and finance. During this time, participants will create a variety of items that will be sold during the projects culminating celebration, to raise funds for Special Olympics programming and demonstrate the skills of people with intellectual disabilities. Aissatou and Awa hope to recruit new Special Olympics Youth Leaders to join the Unified Generation as they inspire community and business leaders to join the Special Olympics movement.
