Sinalo Thelma hopes to engage and educate parents with intellectual disabilities through forums and activities to connect parents and create a network of support for their children. Sinalo Thelma believes this program will connect parents and children and provide them with the tools to navigate personal challenges with raising children.

Over nine months, Sinalo Thelma’s project will use in-person and virtual platforms to connect participants to programming, resources, and activities that will assist them in managing the challenges they face as parents, and children of parents with intellectual disabilities. While guiding participants on a learning journey of discovery, Sinalo Thelma’s project will support children of parents with intellectual disabilities and the challenges they may face. Her project will also help Special Olympics identify ways they can support athletes and retain competitors who are parents. Through Sinalo’s project, participants will be empowered to achieve their dreams and inspire others to join them as they foster a culture of inclusion in South Africa.
