Together, Kayla and Shafira will lead a Youth Innovation Project aiming to address challenges in obtaining employment for youth with intellectual disabilities (ID).

The Youth Leaders will leverage technology as a tool to provide improved job opportunities. Kayla and Shafira will draw from their own experiences in the job market as well as collaborate with local organizations in Indonesia.

Over the course of twelve months, Kayla and Shafira will set out to reduce stigma and improve public perception of youth with ID who are seeking employment. Kayla and Shafira have a multi-faceted approach in achieving this goal. First, the Youth Leaders will create a video shadowing youth with ID successfully working as a restaurant greeter. This video will be shared on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, and will be used to highlight the capabilities of the worker. Secondly, the Youth Leaders will host a virtual forum to bring together young people with ID and local companies. This will provide employers with an opportunity to discuss what they are looking for in candidates as well as offer the young people a platform to demonstrate their skills in a live setting.
