Gilmour and Matthew are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Malta with plans to use physical activity and sports participation to replace social segregation with inclusion.
Inspired by their participation at the Forum, Glimour and Matthew are committed to creating an inclusive environment to bring together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. This will give a voice to athletes with intellectual disabilities and build relationships through sport. Gilmour and Matthew plan to create opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities to train in the same setting as their peers without intellectual disability through Unified Sports. In this setting, there will be coaches available to support the development and growth of all participants.
In the coming months, Gilmour and Matthew plan to introduce the project to their community, recruit participants, and begin inclusive sport training. Through this project, Gilmour and Matthew hope to enhance their school club system in Malta with inclusive sport opportunities. As the project develops and grows, Gilmour and Matthew also plan to reach out to a wider audience through social media channels. By creating an inclusive setting and promoting inclusion through sport, Gilmour and Matthew are growing the Unified Generation in Malta and around the world.
