Emilia and Titus are holding Unified sporting events to unite current athletes and Youth Leaders in their program, and identify new ones, too.
About the Project Leaders
Emilia is a 17-year-old from Kaunas City, and she currently is attending Kaunas City Jezuitai Gymnasium. Emilia joined Special Olympics in 2020 at first as a volunteer and later she became a Youth Leader, when she helped to lead a project with Kamile. Emilia is a Youth Leader in Special Olympics because she thinks working together will help society become more inclusive sooner.
Titas is a 16-year-old athlete from Vilnius, Lithuania. Along with Emilia, he hopes to expand the Youth program in the capital of Lithuania, Vilnius. Titas joined Special Olympics when he was just 7 years old and he was participating in the Young Athlete program. Titas is attending swimming classes and participating in national competitions and games for his sport. He was invited to join the Youth Leaders program in 2021, and has since enjoyed many Special Olympics events and activities. Titas considers himself a strong Youth Leader as he is active, is not afraid of public speaking, and likes to gather with other Youth Leaders.
The Inspiration
Emilia and Titas feel that the Youth Leaders program is very well implemented in Kaunas City, but just small steps of progress are made in this area in surrounding cities. They want to expand the Youth Leaders program in Vilnius, and hope to use sport as a tool to present Special Olympics, its mission and activities for the communities, schools, and clubs in neighboring cities by inviting them to join activity days in their city.
The Plan
Emilia and Titus’s project will plan Youth Leadership events in 2 cities, Kaunas and Vilinius. They will host a youth meeting tp recruit new Youth Leaders to the Special Olympics program. They will also host a final event for all the new Youth Leaders!
Project Goals
Through their project, Emilia and Titas hope to raise awareness for Special Olympics and its mission, identify new Youth Leaders in Vilnius and Kaunas, and have fun together and promote inclusion!
