Melisa and Christine are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Kenya who will lead a Youth Innovation Project promoting environmental conservation by encouraging youth with and without intellectual disabilities to plant trees in their local community.
Over the course of six months, Melisa and Christine will identify ten new Youth Leaders, who will help them establish tree nurseries, plant trees around schools, and sell trees for Special Olympics fundraising. Through their project, Melisa and Christine will give Youth Leaders with intellectual disabilities various lead roles. Melisa and Christine will work with the new Youth Leaders to encourage their entire school to become more inclusive and environmentally conscious. By modeling and promoting Inclusive Youth Leadership in environmental conservation, Melisa and Christine are proving the Unified Generation is prepared to practice inclusion in all forms of advocacy.
