Melisa and Christine will use this project to grow the Unified Generation in Kenya and support environmental sustainability initiatives. In October 2019, Melisa and Christine participated in the Special Olympics Africa Regional Youth Leadership Summit in Nairobi, Kenya and learned how the importance of youth leadership and engagement can lead to a stronger Unified Generation.

Over the course of six months, Melisa and Christine will identify ten new Youth Leaders, who will help them establish tree nurseries, plant trees around schools, and sell trees for Special Olympics fundraising. Through their project, Melisa and Christine will give Youth Leaders with intellectual disabilities various lead roles. Melisa and Christine will work with the new Youth Leaders to encourage their entire school to become more inclusive and environmentally conscious. By modeling and promoting Inclusive Youth Leadership in environmental conservation, Melisa and Christine are proving the Unified Generation is prepared to practice inclusion in all forms of advocacy.
