Alaa and Marya are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Bahrain who felt welcomed and accepted into the Special Olympics community ever since they first got involved.
This inspired them to lead a Youth Innovation Project that will engage as many youth as possible in their effort to spread the word about inclusion and exemplify the principles of Special Olympics so that people will see that, at the end of the day, we are all the same. By exposing more youth to this community, educating them about leadership and encouraging them to be advocates themselves by collecting pledges for inclusion, Alaa and Marya will amplify their impact and spread the message of inclusion further than they ever could on their own.

Over 6 months, Alaa and Marya aim to get 100 young leaders involved in the Lead to Include Project, first by teaching them all about the importance of integrating people with and without intellectual disabilities. Alaa and Marya will also work with them in developing their leadership skills, specifically in speaking and communication, so they can spread the message of inclusion effectively. Alaa and Marya will then encourage the these Youth Leaders to collect pledges through social media to promote a culture of inclusion and send messages of support to athletes. By providing youth with this knowledge and these skills, Alaa and Marya are empowering them to embody and practice inclusion both in their community and Bahrain at large.
