Shamimu is a Special Olympics Youth Leader from Tanzania who participated in a Stavros Niarchos Foundation Inclusive Leadership training.
As a sibling of a Special Olympics athlete with an intellectual disability, Shamimu will lead a Youth Innovation Project to expand Unified Schools and Unified Sports programming to increase opportunities for individuals with and without intellectual disabilities to participate together in team sports and recreational activities in their schools and communities. Shamimu will guide Special Olympics Youth Leaders, staff, coaches, volunteers, educators, and administrators to design activities that share how Special Olympics Unified Schools and Unified Sports create opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities to participate in interactive sports and, health activities that promote social inclusion.

Over six months, Shamimu will engage a group of young people to support the with the expansion of 12 Special Olympics Unified Schools and Unified Sports programs in Tanzania. Shamimu hopes to recruit new Special Olympics Youth Leaders to join the Unified Generation as he creates new opportunities for youth through Unified Schools and Unified Sports programming.
