Trang and Jemima are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Palau implementing a Youth Innovation Project to educate their community on the issues of bullying and isolation that individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) face.

This will be accomplished by conducting activities and discussions with small groups in schools to teach intervention tactics. The project mentor will connect with local schools and principles to create the medium necessary to achieve the purpose of this project. Most of all, Trang and Jemma strive to raise awareness about the conflicts individuals with ID face within their own community. By educating and promoting advocacy, Trang and Jemma hope to influence other youth to become leaders in their own spaces.

In six months, Trang and Jemma will engage 200 youth with or without an intellectual disability while conducting their project. By engaging youth in schools, Trang and Jemma hope to normalize education on this topic while influencing others to become a part of their movement to stop bullying. Trang and Jemma also believe it is essential to take a community approach and to educate teachers and care givers on this topic. Trang and Jemma hope that this project will be a big step to creating a Unified Generation in Palau.
