Sagana and Javis are siblings and Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Kenya who will lead a Youth Innovation Project to promote and expand Special Olympics Unified Sports programming in their communities.
Sagana and Javis hope that partnering young people with and without intellectual disabilities in Unified Sports activities and increasing environmental conservation awareness will grow a culture of inclusion that blossoms year-round in Kenya.
Over six months, Sagana and Javis will recruit hundreds of Special Olympics Youth Leaders through Unified Sports programming. Participants will engage in a Unified marathon that will run through the community, where the public will be able to learn more about the rights of persons with intellectual disabilities. Alongside the marathon, project participants will host a tree planting activity in the community, where they will learn about preservation of protected nature in Kilili County, Kenya. Sagana and Javis’ program will empower their community to connect through the power of sport and nature, while preserving the beauty and sustainability of their community. Sagana and Jarvis want to inspire new Special Olympics Youth Leaders to join the Unified Generation as they host activities that bring community members together across Kenya.
