Jason and Konstantinos will be hosting several Unified sports events over the course of their project to unify athletes in their community and grow their Special Olympics Program.

About the Project Leaders

Jason is 22 years old and is currently in his second year studying sport coaching at University. As a Special Olympics Hellas athlete he has complete in badminton at both the local and global level. At the 2019 Special Olympics Word Games in Abu Dhabi he won the Gold medal in Mixed Doubles and Silver medal in singles. He most recently attending the 2022 Youth Leadership Summit in Berlin where he got to engage in inspiring conversations with other youth leaders around the region.

Konstantinos is currently in 11th grade at Anatolia High School. Over the past year he has joined Special Olympics as a Youth Leader and attended the 2022 Youth Leadership Summit in Berlin. Konstantinos enjoys playing violin and hopes to showcase this talent with other youth in his program. He is excited about continuing his leadership journey.

Project Inspiration

“Steki” is the Greek word for stamping ground (a regular or favorite gathering place, resort, or haunt). Konstantinos and Jason want to create a “steki” for athletes and Unified partners in their area. Even though only one delegation from Greece will be attending the 2023 Special Olympics World Games in Berlin, Jason and Konstantinos want engage other athletes from their country to support in the promotion of the event and awareness of Special Olympics.

Project Plan

Over 9 months, Konstantinos and Jason will implement a project that includes sports, educational and recreational activities (such as bowling tournaments, exhibition visits, day trips) with the aim of interacting, exchanging views, building common experiences.

Project Goals

Through this project, they to reinforce youth with and without intellectual disability to become active citizens without prejudice and stereotypes. In addition to promoting Special Olympics programs and strengthening the existing Special Olympics programs in Thessaloniki.
