2024
The Mission Dakshyata project provided hands-on skill development training, inclusive sports activities, and community engagement opportunities for youth. The project culminated in an exhibition where participants showcased and sold the products they created.
About the Project
The project also included an awareness campaign to engage local schools and community members. It culminated in a community exhibition where participants could showcase and sell their finished products, creating an opportunity to apply their skills and engage with the broader community.
The Inspiration
Goutamee and Piru were inspired by the mission of Special Olympics Bharat and wanted to create opportunities for young people to develop practical skills, build confidence, and participate more fully in their communities. They were also motivated by the support of their families and fellow youth leaders who embraced the Unified model.
The Project
Inclusive sports and Unified activities brought youth with and without IDD together to participate, cooperate, and build teamwork. Community exhibitions provided another opportunity for participants to connect with others while showcasing the products they created through their training.
Project Impact
Project leaders highlighted the vocational training sessions, inclusive sports activities, and community exhibitions as some of the most meaningful moments of the project. Together, these activities helped participants build practical skills and take part in structured, inclusive community experiences.
Project Leaders Reflection
The youth leaders also gained experience managing timelines, coordinating resources, and working with trainers, schools, volunteers, and community members. These experiences helped them develop their leadership skills while ensuring that project activities were implemented smoothly.
