Arni and Rangga, youth leaders from Special Olympics Indonesia, noticed that much of the general public was unfamiliar with the Special Olympics movement. As young leaders, they wanted to raise awareness and introduce Special Olympics to other young people in their school community. Their goal was to create sustainable partnerships with schools and encourage classmates to become agents of change by advocating for inclusion and getting involved as Unified partners or Youth Leaders.
Arni and Rangga's initial inspiration came from their firsthand experiences volunteering with Special Olympics Indonesia. Through their involvement, they saw the impact that inclusive sports and youth leadership could have on individuals and communities. They wanted to help expand the movement by creating more opportunities for young people to participate in inclusive sports and become advocates for inclusion.

The project was supported by the Riau Board, the Special Olympics Indonesia National Office, Special Olympics Asia Pacific, and special and regular schools in Pekanbaru.
The project took a multi-layered approach to introducing local schools to Special Olympics, Unified Sports, and Inclusive Youth Leadership. The youth leaders visited participating schools to host workshops, sharing information about the movement and creating opportunities for students to get involved. The project also supported the formation of youth clubs at schools and culminated in Unified Bocce competitions at each participating school.

Following the school visits, students pledged to help create more inclusive communities within their schools and signed up to volunteer with their local Special Olympics program. On a larger scale, participating schools also agreed to partner with Special Olympics Indonesia clubs to support year-round sports training.
Through the project, the Youth and Sports Department of Riau Province gained greater awareness of how young people can work together to promote inclusion and create positive change in their communities. The school visits introduced students to Special Olympics while demonstrating how inclusive youth leadership can positively impact both communities and the lives of young people.

The project successfully increased awareness of Special Olympics and created new opportunities for students and schools throughout Pekanbaruto learn about, engage in, and promote inclusion.
One of the youth leaders' favorite parts of the project was having the opportunity to give young people new perspectives by creating inclusive environments and bringing students together through Unified Bocce.

The youth leaders were also excited to engage a wide range of stakeholders throughout the campaign, including private-sector partners, government representatives, schools, and volunteers. They were especially proud that the Governor's wife attended the workshop event and had the opportunity to see the impact of inclusive youth leadership firsthand.
