The Unified Education Project aimed to expand existing Unified Schools programming by engaging Health Messengers, athlete leaders, inclusion ambassadors, and community influencers to promote inclusion and health awareness. Through a series of awareness activities, sports events, and health activations, the youth leaders created opportunities to educate their communities about the importance of inclusion and the mission of Special Olympics Guatemala.

By bringing together diverse voices and community partners, the youth leaders worked to strengthen the Unified movement and encourage greater participation in inclusive initiatives.
The youth leaders were inspired by seeing others who were motivated and excited to be part of the Special Olympics movement. They were also encouraged by the support of their families and the guidance of strong mentors who helped them recognize their ability to create meaningful change in their communities.
The project focused on expanding Unified Schools and building a stronger network of inclusion allies beyond the school environment. In addition to working within schools, the youth leaders delivered Unified Education Training to institutions that provide education and community services to the general population.

Through these trainings, the youth leaders engaged four different community groups, helping participants challenge existing perceptions and develop a deeper understanding of inclusion. They strengthened their outreach by involving Health Messengers and athlete leaders, who shared their experiences,demonstrated their skills, and highlighted the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.
The project reached more than 200 community members across two organizations in Guatemala, increasing the visibility of Special Olympics and promoting a culture of inclusion throughout the country. Through education and engagement, the youth leaders helped create greater awareness and encouraged more individuals to become advocates for inclusion.
The youth leaders reflected on how the project helped them overcome their fear of public speaking and become more confident advocates for inclusion. They gained the confidence to raise their voices together and share the broader impact of the Special Olympics movement.

Through this experience, they strengthened their self-confidence, teamwork, collaboration skills, and ability to develop and implement ideas.

Moving forward, the youth leaders plan to continue expanding Unified Education Training by partnering with additional organizations and bringing more mindset-changing activities to their communities. They remain committed to creating opportunities for inclusion and inspiring others to join the movement.
