The project aimed to expand the Unified Champion Schools initiative by establishing a collaborative Unified Puzzle Challenge. The challenge brought together youth with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) from ten different schools, placing participants into mixed teams to solve an inclusion-themed puzzle.

Each puzzle consisted of individual pieces that, when completed, revealed an image and a powerful message promoting inclusion. Through the activity, participants developed teamwork and communication skills while experiencing firsthand the value of working together toward a shared goal.
The youth leaders were inspired by the stories shared by fellow participants at the 2024 Turin Unified Leadership Summit. Hearing how other young leaders designed and implemented Youth Innovation Projects motivated them to create a project that would bring inclusion to more schools in their own community.

Throughout the planning and implementation process, they also received invaluable guidance and encouragement from mentors, staff at Special Olympics Bharat and Special Olympics Karnataka, their school, community members, and the many participants who helped make the project possible.
The Unified Puzzle Challenge brought together 40 participants from ten different schools to collaborate on solving inclusion-themed puzzle sets. The initiative was promoted during a 5K Unified Walk-a-thon, which served as a key opportunity to raise awareness and recruit participants among local schools, parents, educators, and community members.

The project exceeded its original objectives by expanding inclusive programming into five schools and establishing one new Unified Sports Club. To ensure the initiative would continue beyond the project period, the youth leaders also adopted a "train-the-trainer" approach, equipping educators and coaches with the knowledge and resources needed to sustain inclusive programming within their schools.
Since the project's conclusion, the youth leaders have continued organizing additional activities to maintain momentum and strengthen inclusion across their community. By building lasting partnerships with schools and educators, they have laid the foundation for continued growth of Unified programming.
Looking back, the youth leaders are most proud that participation extended far beyond a single event. Rather than engaging once, many participants continued taking part in Unified Sports, educator trainings, health initiatives, and other inclusive activities throughout the year. This sustained involvement demonstrated that the project created meaningful, lasting connections.

Looking ahead, the youth leaders remain committed to expanding their impact through a more structured and intentional approach. They plan to grow the Unified Schools model by supporting additional schools in adopting inclusive practices while continuing to mentor future youth leaders. By equipping the next generation with the skills, confidence, and understanding needed to lead inclusive initiatives, they hope to create an even stronger and more sustainable culture of inclusion.
