Youth leaders Sarah and Clemens brought young people from their local Special Olympics Program together for a unified trip to Erlangen focused on building connections, strengthening their youth community, and developing future leaders. Through group activities, planning sessions, and exploring Munich together, participants formed new friendships and strengthened their sense of belonging.

About the Project

Youth leaders Sarah and Clemens organized a unified trip to Erlangen, bringing together young people from across Germany to build a stronger, more inclusive community. Before the trip, participants met virtually to get to know one another and build connections. During the trip, they came together to meet, learn, and grow as a group.

The project aimed to support the long-term development of Special Olympics youth, strengthen their sense of community, and encourage new young leaders to join the movement.

The Inspiration

The participants themselves were the greatest inspiration for the project. Sarah and Clemens were inspired by how open-minded everyone was and how readily participants supported one another throughout the events.

Sarah and Clemens also expressed their gratitude to Lebenshilfe Munich for providing space to host the trip.

The Project

The event began on Saturday afternoon with a welcome party and snacks, giving participants an opportunity to connect and get to know one another. Later, youth leaders hosted the Official Youth Day, where participants approved plans for the year and began planning their session for the Regional Games in July.

The group then enjoyed dinner together before spending the evening bowling. The following day, participants explored Munich on a city tour, creating even more opportunities to connect and experience the city together.

Project Impact

For many participants, the trip was their first opportunity to get to know one another. Through the shared activities and experiences, they quickly built relationships and formed new friendships.

Sarah and Clemens achieved their project objectives by strengthening their youth group, building a stronger sense of community, and encouraging participants to support one another.

Project Leaders Reflection

Throughout the project, Sarah and Clemens strengthened their organizational skills and learned to adapt and improvise along the way. They were excited to bring the group together, create new connections, and strengthen relationships among young people across Germany.
