The “Voices of Inclusion” project elevated the voices of Special Olympics Namibia athletes by documenting and sharing their personal stories through interviews, photography, and video. By highlighting athletes’ achievements, resilience, and leadership, the project aimed to increase awareness, challenge stigma, and promote inclusion across communities in Namibia and beyond.
About the Project
To address this, the project focused on identifying athletes with meaningful experiences and documenting their journeys through interviews, photos, and videos. These stories were then prepared for sharing across social media platforms, helping to increase visibility and create a deeper understanding of the lives and contributions of athletes with intellectual disabilities.
The Inspiration
The leaders were also supported by Special Olympics Namibia, volunteers, and athlete leaders who contributed to making the project a success.
The Project
The athletes were at the center of this project, sharing personal experiences related to sport, health, and leadership. Their stories highlighted their achievements and daily lives, helping audiences better understand their strengths and contributions.
Project Impact
Through both in-person engagement and digital storytelling, the project reached over 100 athletes and 140 community members, while also extending its impact to wider audiences through social media. As people listened to and engaged with these stories, their perceptions began to shift.
Project Leaders Reflection
They were especially proud of creating a platform where athletes felt heard and valued, as well as the personal growth they experienced in leadership, communication, and problem-solving.
