What a year has it been for Special Olympics Great Britain! Recently, the program hosted an event at the House of Lords in London to recognize the successful first-year implementation of the Play Unified initiative in schools across the United Kingdom.
The Play Unified campaign has promoted change in more than 200 schools across the country in the past 12 months and has already significantly exceeded its initial targets. The celebration event showcased the impact of the Play Unified campaign to date and highlighted the impact inclusive Youth Leadership and Unified Sports activity can have in creating a unified generation of young people from across the country.
Karen Wallin, CEO of Special Olympics Great Britain commented: “For Play Unified to have made such an impact in its first year is hugely gratifying. Young people with intellectual disabilities face a number of barriers in their lives - we believe that Play Unified will be instrumental in breaking those barriers down."
