Over 350 Special Olympics athletes and students along with 130 university students recently gathered for a week-long sport and health event in Tuzla – another successful collaboration between Special Olympics Bosnia and Herzegovina (SO BiH) and the University of Tuzla.

The event was organized by SV Medicus, the student council of the Faculty of Medicine in Tuzla in cooperation with SO BiH. SO athletes competed in five sports while dedicated health care students and professionals provided free health screenings in line with the Fun Fitness, Special Smiles and Health Promotion Healthy Athletes programs.

The week concluded with a forum on increasing awareness about intellectual disability, sports and health. Alisa Dedic, a member of SV Medicus, noted, “We wanted to empower people involved in this event and make inclusion happen.” Dr. Kada Delic Selimovic, National Director of SO BiH, expressed pride in the fact that so many young students and professionals are actively involved in SO.
