Summer Games Take Centre Stage Across Europe Eurasia

The summer is in full swing and that means one thing for the athletes of Special Olympics: the opportunity to compete and celebrate on their national stage at Summer Games!
A large group of people celebrate at Special Olympics Netherlands National Summer Games.

From Great Britain to Poland and from The Netherlands to Serbia, almost 20 Summer Games across Europe Eurasia are taking our region by storm, giving athletes the opportunity to compete with peers from across the nation. Meanwhile, coaches, volunteers, families, friends, partners, media and supporters are enthusiastically cheering them along. Towns and regions across Europe Eurasia have been preparing for months and even years to host National Games, often the most inclusive sports event in that country each year. Apart from the array of sports competitions on offer at Games, organisers provide a host of additional activities for athletes and supporters including Healthy Athletes screenings, Young Athletes and Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) demonstrations, as well as cultural activities showing off the best of the city or region to visiting delegations.

Below is a taste of the Summer Games – most concluded but there are still some more to come. In particular, in September 2026, Malmö will host Special Olympics Sweden Invitational Games which will be the largest sporting event ever held in the country for people with intellectual disabilities, welcoming athletes from across Sweden and around the world.
