Women's Tennis Association

Special Olympics is pleased to partner with the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) to build international awareness of and participation in Special Olympics Unified Sports® through the WTA Foundation’s global community outreach program COME PLAY!. This program encourages people of all ages and abilities to play tennis in order to lead healthy and productive lives on and off the court. The partnership does this in a variety of ways with activations at WTA tournament pairing Special Olympics athletes with professional players and WTA players joining official Special Olympics tennis events at national and international events. In addition, Special Olympics is grateful for the support of 3x Grand Slam champion Gaby Dabrowski as an official Global Ambassador since 2020.

Loretta Claiborne was born the middle of seven children in a poor, single-parent family in York, Pennsylvania. Partially blind and with intellectual disabilities, she was unable to walk or talk until four-years-old. Today, Claiborne is an accomplished athlete, motivational speaker, member of the Special Olympics International Board of Directors, and Chief Inspiration Officer for Special Olympics.
