Hon. Samantha Sacramento is a member of the Gibraltar Parliament and a Cabinet Minister of Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar since December 2011.
She is Gibraltar’s first Minister for Equality and the first woman to have acted for the Chief Minister of Gibraltar.
Having held a number of portfolios while in Government, following the general election in October 2019, Samantha was appointed Gibraltar’s Minister for Justice and Minister for Civil Contingencies, once again the first time such portfolios have been held by a woman, while continuing as Minister for Equality.
Her responsibilities include safeguarding, regulation and all regulatory bodies, Her Majesty’s Prison, the Royal Gibraltar Police and Gibraltar Fire and Rescue Services Airport Fire and Rescue Services.
Samantha has chaired Gibraltar’s Civil Contingencies Strategic Co-ordinating Group throughout the Covid-19 pandemic including overseeing the implementation of emergency legislation to deal with the pandemic, instigating Gibraltar’s extremely successful Covid-19 Vaccination Programme. Five months into the pandemic, Samantha was appointed the additional responsibilities for Health and Social Services and having also lead Gibraltar’s Health Authority during the public health crisis, she was also the architect of a restructure and reorganisation of Gibraltar’s Health Authority and launched the “Reset, Restart and Recover” programme to allow the organization and the service to effectively recalibrate post Covid-19 and Brexit. During this time Samantha also pioneered and launched a National Mental Health Strategy and five-year implementation plan for Gibraltar.
Samantha is a barrister by profession and a Bencher of the Honorable Society of the Middle Temple.
