Proper Hand Washing Techniques

With the outbreak of the coronavirus, Special Olympics wants you to stay safe. Washing your hands properly is just one way to help do that.

In the Expert Tip video series, Special Olympics athletes share their know-how on a range of helpful and popular topics.

For Global Handwashing Day, October 15, Nyasha Derere, a Health Messenger from Special Olympics Zimbabwe, shared these video tips on proper hand washing techniques.

Proper Hand Washing Techniques
Special Olympics athletes have skills and abilities beyond sports. In a new Expert Tip video series, athletes share their know-how on a range of helpful and popular topics.

6 Steps of Washing Your Hands:

Step 1: Wet your hands under running water.
Step 2: Apply soap to your wet hands.
Step 3: Wash your hands for 20 seconds (don’t forget to scrub between your fingers, under your nails, and the tops of your hands).
Step 4: Rinse your hands well under the water.
Step 5: Dry your hands.
Step 6: Turn the water off with your paper towel.
