Media registration for the Special Olympics Invitational Games—Road to Santiago 2027 has officially opened. Members of the press and media professionals are invited to apply for accreditation to cover this international event via the Invitational Games Registration System.

The Invitational Games, taking place from 8 – 12 November in Santiago, Chile, marks a major milestone in the lead up to the Special Olympics World Games Santiago 2027. The event will bring together more than 700 athletes competing across 5 sports, including athletics, 3x3 basketball, 7-a-side football, futsal, and swimming. All competitions will take place at Estadio Nacional.

8 programs from 4 regions are set to compete:

  • East Asia: Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong
  • Europe Eurasia: Malta and Slovakia
  • Latin America: Dominican Republic, Paraguay, and Puerto Rico
  • North America: Canada

The Invitational Games serve as a qualifying event prior to the global Special Olympics World Games Santiago 2027 which take place next year in Santiago. The Invitational Games also allow Special Olympics Latin America and the World Games Local Organizing Committee to use the top-level competition, and other non-competition events, to best prepare to meet the increased scale of the 2027 World Games while continuing to build on the passion and culture of inclusive sport that lies at the center of the Special Olympics movement and across the Latin America region.

Special Olympics welcomes all media to join in sharing the momentous event and the remarkable stories of Special Olympics athletes as they bring their all in Santiago.
