Remembering Giorgio Armani

The Special Olympics community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of fashion designer Giorgio Armani. He understood the important intersection of the fashion and sport worlds and used the power of his brand to advocate for inclusion on behalf of the Special Olympics movement.

"It was exciting to be introduced to the fashion world by the iconic Giorgio Armani during Fashion Week in Milan. I appreciate the support he gave Special Olympics over the years."

During his 40-year association with Special Olympics, Armani designed uniforms for athletes participating in World Games and featured athletes on holiday cards. In 2004, he teamed up with famed photographer Annie Leibovitz to compile a photobook called Faces of Sport, benefiting Special Olympics. The book portrayed athletes at the top of their games. Special Olympics athletes were featured alongside superstars such as Serena Williams, Pete Sampras and Ronaldo.

"Thank you, Giorgio Armani, for sharing our vision and for showing the world that there is nothing more fashionable than welcome and acceptance for all."

More recently, the Armani/Teatro hosted a fundraising gala in Milan ahead of Special Olympics World Winter Games Turin 2025 with an auction that included an Armani Fall 2024 black multi-tiered tulle bustier evening gown.

We send our deepest condolences to Giorgio Armani’s family, friends and loved ones.
