Project Year
2023
A student-led series of inclusive dance competitions that brought together youth of all abilities across Hungary to connect through choreography, teamwork, and celebration.

About the Project

Inclusive Dance Challenge brought together students with and without intellectual disabilities across Hungary to choreograph, perform, and connect through school-based dance competitions and a celebratory final gala.

The Inspiration

Inspired by a shared love of music and inclusion, youth leaders wanted to create a fun and visible way for students across the country to form new Unified pairs, experience teamwork, and learn about the mission of Special Olympics.

The Project

Despite some early leadership changes, the team delivered events at schools and a university where youth formed teams, created dance routines, and shared their talents; free venues and local support helped them stretch their budget and bring high energy to each site.

Project Impact

The challenge engaged six participants directly, inspired three new youth leaders, and expanded programming at two schools; though the numbers were modest, participants expressed deeper understanding and a lasting interest in inclusion and volunteering.

Project Leader Reflection

The leaders said they grew braver and more confident throughout the project, and they’re especially proud of the positive feedback, new friendships, and continued interest in volunteering from students who took part.
