Masura, Siti, and Ahmad are Special Olympics Youth Leaders in Brunei Darussalam leading a project they call ‘Mission Inclusion 673.’ Masura, Siti, and Ahmad hope to create more opportunities for inclusion by proposing a Unified School in Brunei Darussalam.
In September 2018, Ahmad participated in the Special Olympics Global Youth Leadership Forum in Baku, Azerbaijan and learned how to enhance the impact of their youth leadership and establish a project plan for ‘Mission Inclusion 673.’
At the Forum, Ahmad discussed the importance of Unified Schools and youth leadership around the world and felt that “Mission Inclusion 673” would be a powerful way to propel this global initiative in Brunei Darussalam. At each participating school, there will be three different stages of engagement. First, with the help of Special Olympics, Masura, Siti, and Ahmad, will host an informational session about what it means to be a Unified School. Next, they will offer a training for youth leaders in the school, followed by monthly meetings organized by the student council. The final stage of “Mission 673” will be a Unified Sports event for students with and without intellectual disabilities at the participating school.
Over the coming year, Masura, Siti, and Ahmad aim to engage 12 government schools in Unified programming. With the leadership of Masura, Siti, and Ahmad, and the other youth recruited to implement “Mission 673,” the Unified Generation will grow in schools in Brunei Darussalam and beyond.
