Kalash and Yashica are Special Olympics Youth Leaders who believe and have seen that inclusion leads to happiness.
Their experiences with Special Olympics inspired them to lead a Youth Innovation Project that promotes and puts into practice inclusive education and Unified activities. They believe all youth should have access to equal opportunities and become more accepting of one another. In this project, Kalash and Yashica will work to make inclusive education a school-wide practice at special and mainstream schools, with the hope that this spreads awareness about intellectual disabilities and builds a more inclusive community.
Over 9 months, Kalash and Yashica will engage 20 new Youth Leaders in their goal of highlighting inclusion at educational institutions, implementing Unified Sports, and working to make these activities part of the school curriculum, thereby creating new Unified Champion Schools. Their objectives are guided by the fourth UN Sustainable Development Goal, which advocates for inclusive and equal educational opportunities for all. As members of the Unified Generation, they want to use this project as a chance to voice their opinions and stand up for what’s right, since they know inclusion has the power to impact others’ lives forever.
