Jae Seong and Jun Hyung want to help promote healthy behaviors in their community and will work to train young people on physical and mental health.

About the Project Leaders

Jae Seong is a 24-year-old in his 3rd year at Korea University in Seoul, Korea. Jae Seong participated in the 2022 MATP leadership seminar as an assistant instructor. Jae Seong is currently working as an assistant instructor for special physical education for the integrated sports team which is called CBK Adapted Physical Activity. Through these experiences, Jae Seong established a good relationship with his partner, and with Special Olympics, he became interested in becoming a Youth Leader to encourage people to participate in Unified Sports programs.

Jun Hyung is a 22-year-old from Seoul, Korea. He participated in the 2021 National Sports Festival for Students with disabilities as a Unified partner. Additionally, Jun Hyung has experience as a Youth Leader. In 2021 he led his first Youth Innovation Project. He was rewarded because of the success of the last project, and he was inspired to execute another one with his Unified partner. Jun Hyung hopes to grow his leadership skills further through his Special Olympics experiences, and to reach youth with intellectual disabilities more directly.

The Inspiration

Jae Seong and Jun Hyung want to improve the community's stagnant perception of people with developmental disabilities. They also want to improve the disinterest in the human rights of the people with developmental disabilities.

The Plan

In Korea, most peoples’ daily lives are returning to pre-COVID-19 with the end of COVID-19 in sight. Accordingly, Jae Seong and Jun Hyung’s program will be held face-to-face 24 times from January 2nd to September 27th, 2023. These programs will be planned and operated by adult mentors, and the program will be hosted by the Youth Leaders. The program will be organized to improve the health of people with developmental disabilities through sports activities and to foster leadership among teenagers with developmental disabilities and non-disabled youths. They will conduct promotional activities such as photography and video production while carrying out these programs.

Project Goals

This project aims to help adolescents with developmental disabilities feel self-competent and grow into healthy members of society, and further raise a stagnant local communities' awareness of issues faced by youth with ID.
