Tanner and Mason are Special Olympics Youth Leaders who have personally seen the impact Unified Sports can have on relatives, friends and even themselves.

This inspired Tanner and Mason to lead a Youth Innovation Project that gets more schools involved in Special Olympics by organizing spirit buses to take students with and without intellectual disabilities from schools in the Alpine school district to the Utah Unified Basketball Tournament in the spring of 2022. Tanner and Mason saw a need for this project when they realized not many students knew about or participated in Unified Sports, but were eager to when they learned about it. Tanner and Mason want to provide that opportunity and spread inclusion across the district.

Over six months, Tanner and Mason will collaborate with and present at schools to show them the benefit of the project and gain their support. Tanner and Mason hope to not only increase participation in Unified Sports but to engage over 1,000 youth in this project. By getting students involved and allowing them to see the impact Special Olympics has on all those who participate, they believe this project can continue over time and at future tournaments. With their project, Tanner and Mason are getting more youth to be a part of the Unified Generation, which in turn promotes kindness, hope and selflessness among all.
