About the Project Leaders

Panashe Mambayo, 22, is a Youth Leader from Harare, Zimbabwe who strongly believes in advocating for inclusive rights. Mambayo is a Youth Activation Committee member who has attended many Special Olympics Zimbabwe events as a Unified partner and Youth Leader.
Panashe Banda, 18, is an Athlete Leader as well as a golfer and swimmer with Special Olympics Zimbabwe. Mambayo and Banda are both very passionate about changing the perceptions of their peers to foster inclusion and advocate youth to become leaders.

The Inspiration

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Mambayo and Banda noticed the lack of accessibility to the digital world of SO Zimbabwe athletes. This has led to a major setback in terms of inclusivity, preventing Special Olympics athletes from taking advantage of online opportunities and using online resources.

The Plan

Mambayo and Banda plan to provide an opportunity for those athletes to learn how to utilize virtual resources. Their plans include providing workshop that teach athletes how to operate or use digital equipment. They hope to introduce the concept of digital clinics at SO Zimbabwe events as well as provide basic computer skills training for those who would benefit from it.

Project Goals

Mambayo and Banda have both agreed that the world is shifting to utilize virtual spaces more and to stay current and informed, athletes need to be digitally equipped to stay involved in meaningful roles. They hope to promote inclusion through digital platforms and networks.
