Luthayna will promote inclusion in her community by educating her peers about advocacy and unified activities.
About the Project Leader
Luthayna, 14, is a Youth Leader from Tanzania and for the past 3 years she has seen how Unified Sports have helped her brother become confident and engaged as a Special Olympics athlete. Her brother has inspired her to be an advocate for people with intellectual disabilities and to grow the unified generation.
The Inspiration
Luthayna has also seen how her friends and peers do not interact or socialize with people with intellectual disabilities. Now, she is ready to take charge as a Youth Leader and educate her fellow students about inclusivity and advocacy.
The Plan
Over the next 6 months, Luthayna plans to increase inclusion among her community and in private schools where youth with intellectual disabilities are excluded. To educate her school she will conduct Special Olympics general orientation trainings to both the school administration and to her classmates.
She will also organize advocacy event days which will include Unified Sports on the school campus and post Special Olympics stories emphasizing inclusion in school notice boards and classrooms. To reach the larger community, Luthayna will organize media coverage of the Unified events through a local newspaper, children’s TV sessions, and social media.
Project Goals
Luthayna hopes that she will inspire and engage other youth to become advocates for inclusivity and the Unified Generation both at her school and at other private schools!
