Susan and Munooua are Special Olympics Youth Leaders and advocates for inclusion from Namibia. Inspired by their own involvement in Special Olympics, they will lead a Youth Innovation Project that educates university students, parents/guardians and the community at large about intellectual disabilities.
Over 9 months, Susan and Munooua will host a campaign to raise awareness about intellectual disabilities on campus and in their community. They will enlist as many people with and without intellectual disabilities as possible to get involved, with the hope that this project will have a snowball effect that spreads to other universities and becomes self-sustainable over the years. Susan and Munooua have already begun collaborating with the disability community at their university to gain support for their initiative and they will recruit more Youth Leaders with the same passion for inclusion to continue this important work. They hope that this project will help to change the way people think about people who have intellectual disabilities and reduce any stigmas, showing the community that they are just as capable as everyone else and contributing to a Unified Generation filled with peace, knowledge and kindness.
