Dávid and Sára are organizing a Unified Sports informational event where they will inform their community members, specifically families of youth with ID, on the types of Unified sports they can get involved in.

About the Project Leaders

Sára is a 20-year-old from Budapest, Hungary. She is studying pedagogy and somatopedagogy of people with intellectual disabilities next semester. She first became involved with the Special Olympics because of her brother Kornél, who is an athlete. Throughout her youth, she and her family accompanied him to competitions. Sára saw how beneficial Special Olympics was for her brother and wanted to get involved herself, so she became a Youth Leader. Sára is a proud member of the Unified Generation because she thinks it is important that young people can play sports together without having to categorize fellow athletes as disabled or non-disabled.

Dávid is a 20-year-old from Hungary. He attends Gusztáv Bárczi Skills Development School. Dávid has participated in swimming, basketball and athletics competitions organized by Special Olympics. He has earned medals for his performance in basketball in competitions with other countries. Within Special Olympics, Dávid is in the Youth Leader Youth program, and SOEE Youth Online Roundtable. Dávid is currently involved in the Inclusion Europe campaign, "People with disabilities also have the right for education". Through all of his roles, it is evident Dávid is passionate about the message of inclusion.

The Inspiration

Dávid and Sára believe that families of youth with ID within their community aren’t aware of all resources and opportunities available to them. They want their project to make their community aware of just how capable youth with ID are.

Project Plan

Dávid and Sára plan to organize an inclusive sports event where families can find out what sports their children can become involved in. At this event, sports will be presented together by Unified Partner and athletes. Through their event they want to promote Special Olympics and Unified Sports. They also want to reach out to families who priorly were unaware of Special Olympics’ existence. Ultimately they aim to organize a parent roundtable discussion where they can get answers to any questions they may have.

Project Goals

Dávid and Sára aim to increase Youth and their families sensitivity and awareness surrounding disability, form more Youth Leader pairs, and offer more Unified Sports in their community.
