Carmen and Noemie are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Mauritius who will lead a Youth Innovation Project in partnership with the University of Mauritius to spread the message of inclusion.
Over the course of six months, Carmen and Noemie plan to train around 75 students without intellectual disabilities on how to foster an inclusive culture in their community. Once they have completed their training, students will organize and implement a Special Olympics Healthy Athletes event to address the medical needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities in their community. Through this project, a memorandum of understanding will be signed between the University of Mauritius and Special Olympics Mauritius to ensure that this inclusive work will be supported long-term. As a result of their project, Carmen and Noemie hope to inspire youth with and without intellectual disabilities to become advocates for inclusion and leaders in the Unified Generation.
