Hailey and Chance are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Utah who love the way they’ve been able to create connections through Special Olympics and how everyone is treated so kindly there.

They were inspired to share the positive spirit of inclusion by leading a Youth Innovation Project in which they will create a Unified Club, since there’s currently nothing like this at their school. The club will be led by an executive board with three Unified pairs and will bring students with and without intellectual disabilities together in monthly after-school activities. Hailey and Chance hope this will improve inclusion throughout their school and create friendships beyond the classroom.

Haily and Chance have already done the hard work of planning unified activities and, over six months, the three Unified pairs running the club will implement these monthly after-school activities, which include events like Friendsgiving, a Christmas movie night, hiking and more. Hailey and Chance would like the club to grow in the future through more activities per month and fundraising opportunities that keep the club running and sustaining itself over time. Unified events will range from simple after-school activities to community-wide events, since Hailey and Chance hope to extend their reach to people outside of their school. By creating real friendships, they believe inclusion will reach the rest of the community.
