Andiswa is a Special Olympics Youth Leader from Eswatini who will lead a Youth Innovation Project with the aim of expanding Unified Sports programs in his community through handball.
Since handball is still a new sport in Eswatini, Andiswa believes it will spark an interest in youth to get involved and learn more about the sport. He plans to use this interest in handball as an opportunity to recruit more athletes and increase involvement in Unified Sports.
Over the course of 9 months, Andiswa will engage 70 Special Olympics athletes in handball trainings and competitions. As a Special Olympics athlete himself, Andiswa has used sports as a way of showcasing his abilities, just as he wants to give others the opportunity to do by participating in handball. He believes that Unified Sports like handball will allow people with intellectual disabilities to gain respect and acceptance, ultimately leading to more inclusive communities. By leading this project, Andiswa is inspiring the Unified Generation to combat discrimination and recognize just how much people with intellectual disabilities are capable of.
