Sara and Lorena are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from Ecuador who have both already seen and experienced the positive effects of inclusion in their community through their experiences with Special Olympics.

This inspired them to lead a Youth Innovation Project that creates awareness about inclusion among young people in their community by hosting motivational and educational speeches in schools. With this project, Sara and Lorena hope to reach as many young people as possible who identify with their project and the message of inclusion.

Over a timespan of 6 months, Sara and Lorena will visit different Unified schools – some that they currently work with and some new ones – and have athletes lead two motivational talks per month. This will also allow Special Olympics athletes to improve their communication and public speaking skills. Sara and Lorena want to increase the number of young people, teachers, and schools at large who hear and hopefully share the message about the power of inclusion. As members of the Unified Generation, Sara and Lorena believe this project holds the potential to spread information about intellectual disabilities even beyond schools and encourage their community to include anyone, regardless of their abilities, in any environment.
