She is a Youth Leader because it allows her to influence young people in her community to spread the message of inclusion.

Laila is a 24-year-old from Cairo, Egypt. She has been involved with Special Olympics for the past few years. Laila participated in the Global Youth Leadership Youth Summit which was held in Abu Dhabi in conjunction with the 2019 Special Olympics World Games. Additionally, Laila has participated in many of Special Olympics Egypt’s events, activities, Unified Sports and other leadership initiatives over the years. Laila became a Youth Leader so she can emphasize the importance of including others to those in her community and all over the world.

The Inspiration

Lujin and Laila want to increase their community’s awareness of the importance of inclusion. They feel that the lack of awareness is a major obstacle and hindrance to the progress of this movement.

The Plan

Lujin and Laila will execute their project through holding meetings in different educational institutions in their region on the topic of inclusion in the classroom. Families are also essential to the success of Special Olympics, therefore Lujin and Laila want to host sibling/family workshops to promote unity and integration in the household setting. By engaging families and students in Unified sports events at schools and universities, they instill a culture of acceptance and inclusion all around their city. Also Lujin and Laila will use social media to promote the impact of their project.

Project Goals

At the end of their project, Lujin and Laila hope to increase the number of Unified schools and students in their program, as well as increase the number of other community institutions that will help facilitate an inclusive culture.
