Arts and Creativity
Sabina is a Special Olympics Youth Leader from Albania who will lead a Youth Innovation Project by bringing together youth with and without intellectual disabilities through classical ballet classes and performances.
Sabina will welcome youth between the ages of 15-25 to join her Unified dance ensemble to learn classical ballet. The program’s culmination will be a celebratory showcase where participants will debut their skills in a performance, where COVID-19 precautions will be in place. By bringing together Special Olympics Youth Leaders with and without intellectual disabilities in the art of ballet, Sabina’s project will provide participants with new skills and educate the community on the abilities of people with intellectual disabilities.
Over nine months, Sabina will lead a team of Special Olympics Youth Leaders with and without intellectual disabilities to collaborate with dance professionals to plana series of ballet classes that promote fitness, flexibility, self-esteem, and creativity in a friendly and inclusive setting. Sabina is excited to share her love and passion for ballet by teaching others with and without intellectual disabilities ballet technique and choreography that will help keep their minds and bodies healthy. Sabina’s project will culminate with a public performance showcasing the Unified dancers’ talents. Donations from ticket sales will be used to ensure the Unified ballet program continues. By promoting social inclusion through ballet and shared social experiences, Sabina hopes to recruit new Youth Leaders to join the Unified Generation and continue dancing into new schools and communities across Albania.
