Amy will conduct training sessions to educate her community on the topic of inclusion.
About the Project Leader
Amy Ramirez is 18 years old lives in San Salvador, El Salvador. Amy has always loved being part of a community that creates positives changes and impact on society. She began her Special Olympics movement by becoming a Unified partner. Amy is a Youth Leader who believes that change begins with oneself. She does her best to spread messages of respect and inclusion wherever she goes.
The Inspiration
Amy realizes that their home country is facing a difficult situation. Many individuals with intellectual disabilities must create their own social, religious, sports, and other various other groups because of barriers in society that create inequality. These inequalities and barriers create a gap in people who are trained to help people with intellectual disabilities integrate into the larger community. Through her project, Amy will create an inclusive community where people with and without ID can come together and be equal.
The Plan
Integration Mentor Training project will include a training for teachers, coaches, and collaborators over 25 years of age to come together for a two-day training program. These trainers will come from a wide range of institutions, including sports and/or education institutions. There will be a theoretical and practical component to the training program in which the participating mentors will be able to involve people with and without intellectual disabilities in Unified spaces of different areas of society.
Project Goals
The goal of the Integration Mentor Training program will be to train individuals in becoming mentor and role models for social inclusion. These mentors will form Unified groups and create spaces for social inclusion.
