About the Project Leader

Ejahye is a 14-year-old Youth Leader from Trinidad and Tobago. She has been volunteering with Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago for 6 years. She has worked with athletes in Football and Cricket at Special Olympics Trinidad and Tobago National Games. Ejahye is an athlete, and she has played volleyball for her junior school team. Ejahye was inspired by the great work of Special Olympics Youth Leaders and was inspired to become a Leader herself. She has received leadership training as a peer-counsellor and is looking forward to working with other Special Olympics Leaders to implement this project and build her own leadership skills even more.

The Inspiration

Ejahye has seen that in her community, especially in schools, there are not many opportunities to participate in Unified sports or Youth Leadership programs. She has had many opportunities with Special Olympics and wants to encourage others to get involved.

The Plan

Over the course of this 6-month project, Ejahye will work closely with SO Trinidad and Tobago to expand and introduce floorball to schools throughout the country. She plans to distribute floorball kits, which include rule manuals, coaching guides, and floorball equipment, to schools as well as organize trainings for coaches to learn how to train athletes in floorball. The overall goal is to encourage more schools to participate in the Unified Floorball Competition in November 2022.

Project Goals

By expanding floorball from the SO Trinidad and Tobago National Team to schools throughout the country, Ejahye’s goal is to create 5 new Unified Schools, recruit 50 new athletes, and 20 new coaches. She hopes that the introduction of Unified floorball to these schools will inspire youth with and without intellectual disabilities to join the Special Olympics movement just as it did for her!
