Lumka and Zamange Lebohang are Special Olympics Youth Leaders from South Africa who will lead a Youth Innovation Project to promote inclusion in their communities by planning and hosting youth leadership training conferences that will train and unite Youth Leaders with and without intellectual disabilities from the Kwa Zulu Natal province to establish new Unified Schools, expand programming at current Unified Schools, and recruit new Youth Leaders in the region.
Over nine months, Lumka and Zamange Lebohang will lead a team of Youth Leaders with and without intellectual disabilities to plan, promote, and implement Special Olympics South Africa Unified Leadership training programs. These programs will connect Youth Leaders from across South Africa to train, collaborate, and share ideas to strengthen and expand Special Olympics programming and the Athlete Input Council in their regions. Workshops and breakout sessions during workshops will demonstrate, educate, motivate, and inspire participants to expand their roles as Youth Leaders in the inclusion infusion in South Africa. Lumka and Zamange Lebohang believe their project will provide Youth Leaders with additional tools and ideas to share with their local Special Olympics community and help recruit new Youth Leaders to join them as part of the Unified Generation to foster a culture of inclusion across South Africa.
