Special Olympics Guadeloupe provides empowerment, acceptance and joy. But for every Special Olympics athlete, there are many people with intellectual disabilities we haven’t reached yet.

It’s at the local level—right here—where interested volunteers meet the athletes. That’s where the perceptions start to change and where the miracle of transformation takes place.

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Those activities give them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.

[Chur, Switzerland – 24 March 2026] The road to the Special Olympics World Winter Games Switzerland 2029 has reached a key milestone this week with the official agreement signing in Chur, Switzerland. From 10 – 17 March 2029, Switzerland will host the 2029 Games, sending a strong message of equality and active inclusion.

MedFest (General Medicine)

MedFest was created to offer the physical exam that all athletes need prior to participating in Special Olympics sports programming. It is sometimes the first exposure these athletes have to medical care. For some Special Olympics athletes, life-threatening conditions have been identified through MedFest and subsequently treated through referral and connection to community-based care. Led by volunteer physicians, nurses, physician assistants, and medical students, the MedFest screening consists of the following stations: medical history, height and weight, blood pressure, cardiology test, musculoskeletal test, orthopedic tests, abdominal evaluation, and a check out station.
