Susan began her journey with Special Olympics in 2002 as the parent of a future athlete. Her family participated in early SO Family Program development and the launch of Young Athletes in Special Olympics New Jersey. In 2004, she went on to expand her expertise in non-profit program development, education and training, as she grew into an ardent disability and inclusion advocate among state disability organizations, including the New Jersey Department of Education. In 2011, she reunited with Special Olympics New Jersey to expand family engagement. She soon found her way to Unified Champion Schools and spent nine years building a recognized Unified Champion Schools program of over 300 schools and collaborating nationally with her state peers and the SONA team to advance all things UCS and social inclusion.
