
The Special Olympics Europe Eurasia (SOEE) Youth Leadership Council for 2025 – 2026 has officially been elected, marking a powerful step forward in youth-driven inclusion and leadership.
Representing their peers across the region, these six leaders will serve as the voice of youth in Europe Eurasia and their communities over the next two years. Their mission is to guide the region, develop and strengthen youth structures across National Programmes and build a more Unified generation.
Meet the Newly Elected Council Members
Salla Pere, Special Olympics Finland
From Nokia, Finland, Salla is pursuing a degree in physical education at the University of Jyväskylä. A passionate futsal player and sports enthusiast, she sees the Youth Council as an opportunity to make meaningful change.
“I’m excited to be part of the Youth Council because it allows me to work on something meaningful and collaborate with amazing people towards common goals.”
Wivan Atrila, Special Olympics Finland
Living in Espoo, Wivan is an accomplished golfer, as well as a strong basketball player and equestrian rider. She works at a stable with horses and enjoys music, friendship, and family life.
Wivan says that being selected for the SOEE Youth Leadership Council is important because “you get to be yourself and be role models for new athletes and are encouraged to move and play sports, and dare to join the group. That’s why it’s fun to be a part of, and there’s a sense of community.”

Neo Girotić, Special Olympics Slovenia
Neo is an eighth-grade student from Slovenia.
“I like to draw and make movie clips on my phone, play some games on Xbox and, of course, swimming.”

Ajda Verdel, Special Olympics Slovenia
Ajda studies at Šolski center Velenje and enjoys running, swimming, and walking. She brings warmth and determination to the team, along with a love for food and family.
Her team motto: “Through courage, we achieve greatness.”

Petros Papasozomenos, Special Olympics Cyprus
Petros, a vibrant young leader with a deep love for music, sports, theatre, and technology, works at a university gym and is passionate about personal fitness and inclusion.
“I feel proud to be selected to represent Cyprus. It’s going to be an exciting experience.”

Daniel Papasozomenos, Special Olympics Cyprus
Daniel, a university student studying Communication and Internet Studies, is deeply involved in volunteerism. As Petros’s brother, he shares a strong commitment to inclusion.
“I believe everyone deserves a chance. As a Youth Leader, I’m dedicated to ensuring that everyone has the chance to reach their full potential.”
