Nearly 1,900 Health Screenings Performed in Three Days at Special Olympics Healthy Athletes®

Man speaking to a small group of people
Dr. Filippo Inversi, a Special Olympics Healthy Athletes volunteer of 19 years.

Over three days, Special Olympics Healthy Athletes®, made possible by the Golisano Foundation, conducted a total of 1,854 health screenings! From these screenings, 908 referral recommendations for follow-up care were made.

Free health screenings and education were offered to all competing Special Olympics athletes across seven disciplines: Fit Feet (podiatry), FUNfitness (physiotherapy), Health Promotion (preventative medicine), Healthy Hearing (audiology), Special Olympics Lions Clubs International Foundation Opening Eyes® (vision care), Special Olympics Special Smiles® (dentistry), and Strong Minds (mental health). Each discipline plays a crucial role in ensuring Special Olympics athletes have access to the care they need to thrive both on and off the field.

Thank you to all the partners, volunteers, and Clinical Directors for making Healthy Athletes screenings possible!

Dr. Filippo Inversi has been volunteering with Healthy Athletes for 19 years, since the 2006 European Youth Games in Rome. Filippo is a Regional Clinical Director in Italy and assists with training new volunteers on the Health Promotion team. During Healthy Athletes, Filippo and his fellow Clinical Directors worked with a team of nutritionists to share tips on nutrition and sports with athletes. He discussed the importance of laughing and smiling with the athletes to enjoy the experience together.
